Over the years auto electrical repairs have being significantly more complex. This is largely due to the technological strides being made in the vehicle manufacturing industry. Thus, although the general design of vehicles may still appear similar, the electrical structure has changed considerably. As such, auto electrical problems would best be remedied by a licensed professional. Here are some of the reasons why you may require these services.
Your alternator is faulty
The main function of a vehicle's alternator is generation of electrical power. This electricity is used in the operating of the various accessories in your car such as the control systems, the ignition and more. Additionally, power generated by the alternator also aids in energy preservation in the battery.
However, there is the misconception that the alternator works by continuously producing an electrical charge. Instead, it works toward upholding the system's voltage. When this voltage is sufficient, the alternator will turn off.
If your alternator is faulty, there are a few things to look out for. These include abnormal noises emanating from the vehicle, a significant drop in the car's battery charge and malfunctioning of your vehicle's electrical control systems. Having an auto electrician conduct an inspection would be pertinent to avoid any further damage to your vehicle's electrical system.
Your starter is faulty
As the name suggests, the starter is the component that gets your car running. It turns over the engine so that the vehicle can rev itself. When your starter is faulty, there are a number of signs you could look out for. The first is if you turn the key in the ignition and hear either a stifled click or nothing at all.
In some occasions, persistent turning on of the starter may eventually get your car up and running. However, this is a sign of a starter that is worn out and you would need to replace it soon. Another sign that your starter is faulty is when your car takes a significant amount of time turn the motor. You may also notice that the dash lights of the vehicle will be dim when you are trying to rev the engine.
Your battery is faulty
In the event that you turn on your starter but there is not enough power for the vehicle to run, the problem probably lies with your battery. If your car has been idle for a significant amount of time, chances are the battery has simply lost some of its voltage. The quick fix for this would be to jump-start the vehicle. However, if the car has not been idle and has a new battery, you would need to engage the services of an auto electrician such as Peel Auto Electrical & Air Conditioning.
